Blue Quills Field Trip
Our 7/8's continued their journey in learning about Residential Schools by traveling to St.Paul to tour Blue Quills University which was formerly a government Residential School. While there, we were given a tour by Elder Alsena White, a survivor of Blue Quills who spent her youth in the school. The tour could not have been more profound as she was so willing to share her stories of pain, suffering, abuse and death during her years at Blue Quills with our class. She has shared so much with us about a very sad time in her life and we will be forever grateful to her. Knowledge is Power and we understand that the knowledge she has given us is a stepping stone to reconciliation.
We were also very fortunate to be invited by our Elder Clifford Cardinal - who we worked closely with last last year - to learn about drum making. Slade and Bowen headed up early with Mr. Grosky where they took part in this lesson on making drums from elk hide.
Once the rest of the class arrived, we were warmly welcomed by all that were there and we all pitched in to finish up the drum making process. After, Clifford invited us to his own classroom where he treated us to pizza and a very delicious dessert made by Wilma Oracheski!!
