An excellent way to kick off the year to Social Studies curriculum was by participating in The Blanket Exercise.
The Kairos Blanket Exercise is a workshop that explores the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Blankets arranged on the floor represent land and participants are invited to step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples.
One of our favourite guests, Mrs. Mabyn Grinde helped guide us through this heavy and difficult content, with Mr. Grosky playing the part of the European Colonizer, which is a very difficult role.
With the outline of Indigenous history under our belt, we will now begin to really dive in to the details over the course of the year.
